Floating to Baan Paew: Authentic and Hidden Thai floating market...

Baan Paew is one of the district in Samut Sakorn province. Samut Sakorn is located on next to the Thai Gulf bay near Bangkok. Samut Sakorn has various calling names, for example "Mahaa Chai", "Baan Thaa Chin" and "Saa Khornburi".

Baan Paew floating market has been a community for over 200 years. The market still preserves its identity of being a pure and natural floating market unlike other ones that are very touristic and garnished. The Baan Paew floating market is actually on the same canal as the Damnoensaduak  floating market (touristic one) and the Amphawa floating market (another touristic one). The canal that flows through all these markets is known as "Khlong Damnoensaduak".

Khlong Damnoensaduak is 32 kilometers long and has altogether 8 sections. The canal connects the Taachin river and the Mae Klong river together.

Baan Paew floating market is located between the sections 2 and 5 of Khlong Damnoensaduak. It is the little known authentic floating market, where people are still living their lives just like in the old days.

To get there, we took the local small truck, common in the country side.

Inside such truck, there are two rows of seats, which is the reason why the trucks are called as "Rot soong thaew" by Thai people. Rot is a car in Thai, soong is the number two and thaew is a row.

From the Baan Suan Cham Chuen floating market and home stay we stepped on a private canal boat.

The overall two sides view of the Baan Paew floating market.

This is how the villagers store their boats.

On the way, we passed by a local small grocery store in Baan Paew.

Another grocery store by the canal.

Typical boat noodle. Thai people call it "Kuay tiaw ruea".

Two boat noodle sellers talking to each other.

Boat duck noodle seller stopped by taking the order.

We had lunch on the boat eating boat noodle.
This is the old and typical way of Thai people along the floating market.

One of the splits of Khlong damnoensaduak. This one is called the Talaat naam khlong bua ngaam floating market.

Old auntie sold fruits from the boat.

Villagers sold seafood ingredients from the boat

School boy gang showed us their bridge jumping skills.

Pad Thai and Hoi thot boat seller.

You will never see lots of boats coming here waiting to trade the goods or foods to the tourists, because this is an authentic floating market. Everything from these pictures are the everyday life of the villagers. If you are getting bored of the tourist trap floating markets, you can come here, the Baan Paew floating market.

The original and more than 100 years old Baan Paew market. This market was built next to Khlong Damnoensaduak. You can see the wooden structure from the floor to the ceiling. Everything is in its original condition.

The market is still lively and well maintained. In the market, there are grocery stores, stationery stores, supermarket and fruits and vegetables sellers.

We asked the owner of the local supermarket whether the modern trade destroyed or took away her business? She answered that, "not really, people still came to her shop to buy cosmetics, personal cares etc..." This is because they know me and they want to support the local business. That is why the market can support many of us here still these days.

Wow! What a really nice thing to hear that people here support each other and like to maintain this old wooden market as long as possible. Nowadays, you would not be able to find such an old and well maintained market like this without garnishing anymore and definitely we would like to support the local community here! Applauds!
